Engraved Wedding Vow Books: Characters, Words and Ordering Tips
Before ordering an engraved wedding vow book, finish your wording and check whether the listing measures space in characters or words. They are very different: a character limit can include individual letters, spaces and punctuation, while a word count groups letters into words. Confirm how the seller counts your text before choosing an engraving option.
Start with the vows you want to read
Write your promises in a separate document first. Read them aloud at a comfortable ceremony pace, then edit for clarity. Do not cut meaningful promises simply to fit an option you chose before writing. Instead, compare your finished text with the available engraving capacity and ask about the layout before ordering.
For example, “I choose you.” contains three words but 13 characters when spaces and the period are counted. A listing allowing 140 characters therefore does not mean 140 words.
How the engraved birch bark book options work
The Little Rustic Farm's current custom engraved vow book has a birch bark cover and vows engraved into pine wood. It measures 6 by 4 inches, with a thickness of approximately ¾ to 1 inch depending on the pages needed. The listed engraving choices range from one page with up to 140 characters to three and a half pages with up to 525 characters.
These are the options shown in the current listing, rather than a universal rule for all vow books. Page size, lettering and layout affect how much text a different design can hold. Before purchasing, confirm that the selected option accommodates your exact wording and whether spaces and punctuation count toward its stated allowance.
Check these details before sending your text
- Names: Check spelling, initials and the order in which names appear.
- Vows: Send one final version with the punctuation and capitalization you want.
- Page breaks: Ask how the wording will be divided so a sentence does not become awkward to read during the ceremony.
- Ceremony details: This design offers the option to add the ceremony date, time and location to the back page. Confirm those details and their placement before production.
- Quantity: Check whether you are purchasing one book or enough books for both partners.
Cover personalization and engraved vows are different purchases
A personalized cover does not automatically mean the vows inside are engraved. The Little Rustic Farm also lists wedding vow and officiant books made with wood panels and faux paper birch backing, measuring 6 by 4 inches and ½ inch deep. That listing describes cover personalization, including a real birch bark heart. Do not assume it includes the same engraved pine-wood pages as the custom engraved design.
If you are still revising your vows, ask which format will suit your plans before selecting a book. If your wording is final and you want it engraved, choose a listing and option that explicitly include that service.
Plan processing time separately from travel time
These products are made to order. The current custom engraved book options list 2–5 business days of processing; shipping transit is additional. Allow room for questions and final wording checks, and confirm timing for your wedding date before ordering. Processing time is not a guaranteed delivery date.
Gift wrapping costs $6 per item. If purchasing several books, confirm which items you want wrapped.
A final ordering checklist
Have your exact text, confirmed character count, book quantity and ceremony details ready. Compare the selected option with that checklist before checking out, and keep a separate copy of your vows for rehearsal and reference.
